Indiana Legacy in the Stars
As Indiana celebrates the 200th anniversary of its statehood, Bicentennial Star reflects on the past 200 years of nights in Indiana. Half of history has occurred between sunset and sunrise. How has the night sky changed since 1816? What will we make of the night sky's future? The Indiana Bicentennial Commission has endorsed Bicentennial Star as a Bicentennial Legacy Project.
For guidance, the star Scheat is about 200 light years away, marking the corner of the Great Square of Pegasus. I encourage you to find and observe Scheat in 2016. Make the experience a personal time stamp.
I thank the Indiana Bicentennial Commission for endorsing Bicentennial Star and for its encouraging letter, below. I also thank Michiana Astronomical Society Inc. for its support. And I welcome your comments and ideas.
